When I Was A Little Younger
I lived in Goldsithney and used to go fishing with the Allans, Jeff and David and the son of Mr Murray a French teacher at Humphrie Davy. My cousins lived just 50 yards from the Allans and were called Tamblyn. We all sang at the Methodist Chapel if we could not escape to go fishing. I remember Eddie Break and a builder called Evans, both ran a boat out of the cove. I once crashed my bike by the farm gate and son of Mr Baihrns took me to Marazion Surgery. I do visit every time I come back and I must say the cottage by the letter box looks a lot better than when we used it to store fishing bait. I believe my cousin Terry still does odd jobs for the farm. I even remember picking up stones for what seemed like forever following a tractor as we leveled and built what is now the Rosudgeon playing field.
Back to The Search April 2009
Have returned to Cornwall to try tracing some of the ancestors through graveyards and the Mormon Centre. Also found a brilliant library in Redruth on the day we were going home and found written info on John Carter and his family members with birth and death dates which was very helpful.
The graveyards were fantastic and I found my grandmother and grandfathers from both sides of the family. Came home with lots of names, dates and information from locals. Surprising how a nostalia trip brings back memories from when I was 10 and younger. Names cropped up of people I knew the names of and in tracing them, found they were great aunts and actually related rather than what I thought were family friends.
A lot of research later and I am stuck again. I have a Jane Carter possibly born in St Agnes married a Carter whom it looks like might have died at sea somewhere between 1871 and 1881 census. I cannot find her marriage nor her... Read more
Searching For my Ancestors
Prussia Cove is a place I walked to in 2007 and have come away knowing that I have todo my family tree as I am related to both Captain Harry Carter and his brother John Carter (The King of Prussia) who were local smugglers. My brother has been named John Carter Read and it is from my mother's side of the family Thelma Carter from Par. My mother is now deceased but I shall be happy to go back to Cornwall this year to start the search and look forward to seeing Prussia Cove again where a lot of the Carter smuggling was done. Does anyone know the name of the house there that John Carter had and whether it still stands today?
Any information that anyone has already found would be greatly appreciated and you can email me on claraduck1@yahoo.co.uk please.
