This small town stands on a inlet of the River Wensum. Lothbroc, a Danish king, landed at Reedham in an open boat when he was driven ashore during a violent storm. Built in the Elizabethan style, the orphanage has room for one hundred children.

From 1959 to 1963 I went to school at Whyteleafe County Primary, Maple Road, whence the older boys and girls were taken by (very old) coaches to Reedham's pool for swimming lessons. It was a bit odd, because we never saw any of the pupils or staff actually attending that school. My brother and I were sent to Reedham School in 1954. We were there for two years, probably the worst two years of my life, despite being put into care at the age of five and continuing until sixteen. I was known as Mathews 2 or RS 100. After I passed the 11 plus in about 1952, I went to grammar school in Whyteleafe. We used to go by bus to Reedham Orphanage to use their indoor swimming pool. I remember that although it was indoor, at least I think it was, it still had leaves in the water. I actually learned to swim in that pool.
I remember walking from Roke Primary School to swimming lessons at Reedham Orphanage. The pool did not look very inviting, I only went a couple of times.
