Happy Days
l moved to Redditch in 1972, lived in Ombersley Close, Woodrow South. l attended the Leys High School, Mr Anstis was our headmaster, a very strict, but fair person. Other names l remember are: Mrs Dingley (art), Mr Turner (English & drama). Pupils: Gail Beard, Rob Jakeman, Kevin Griffin, Michael Alcock, Beverley Stokes, Phil Guest, to name a few. After leaving school in 1974, my first job was at John Dyer & Sons Ltd in the town centre. My manager there was Mr Wilson, l worked in the warehouse, goods in, etc. Happy days.

RE: RE: Happy Days
My great-grandfather was John Dyer, founder of the hardware shop in Alcester Street. He began in business by selling paraffin from a hand-cart which he pushed around the streets of Redditch. He was born in Blackwell. His youngest son {James Percy} carried on the tradition of shop owning in the town. He used to run a sweet shop in a small street off Bromsgrove Road not far from Able Morrall's factory. Grandad also had a fish and chip shop which he ran which was in Hewell Road at the corner of Melen Street, also he owned the butchers's shop and undertakers on the same plot, plus a couple of houses at the top of Prospect Hill. Don't know what he did with his money!. Funnily enough my late husband's great-great-grandad was the founder of the Redditch Indicator. Does anybody remember that? Great newspaper compared with the cheapies you get in Redditch now. When I was at school in Redditch, Gordon Anstis was HM of Lodge Farm and was still there when I left in 1964. I now live in Wales where I've been for more than 30 years.
