Training in Redhill General
I too trained at RHG from 1963-1966 and I don't think any training these days could surpass the excellent training I received there. It was hard work but fun and I learned a lot and met some lovely people along the way. I ended up as a sister on ward 20 at Smallfield hospital and left in 1968 to go to live in Italy for a year - where I met my husband to be whilst on holiday.
Fate has now brought me back to live in Redhill in 2008 - even though I still work in London. I am very shocked at how Redhill has changed beyond recognition and not always for the better. I often think of my colleagues from those times and have recently visited the housing estate where the hospital once stood. There are still many lovely parts to this area and I frequently enjoy sojourns to Reigate and the surrounding towns.
I would love to hear about other people's memories of this time.

RE: RE: Training in Redhill General
I was a very regular in-patient from my birth in 1950 to about 1961 and again in May 1967 at Smallfields and again a very regular out patient at Redhill General until about 1976. I had various consultants but the main ones were Mr Stevens, Mr Ring, Dr Campbell. My memory of the ward numbers at Smallfields has suffered with time but I think the childrens ward was number 17 and the mens surgical where I was placed in 1967 was 19. I well remember Sister Smith and Staff Nurse Williams who became good friends of my parents. My late mother told me Sister Smith retired to Haslemere. I also remeber a Mr Hurd as a male nurse or sister during my stay in 1967. I was offered further major surgery in 1969 but I wanted to go to Kingston Polytechnic and knowing this was my last chance to correct some problems I decided after talking it through with Mr Stevens to leave things as they were and I did not see him again. He was a very good surgeon and thorugh the years I discovered just how well regarded he was in the medical proffesion. I was very lucky to have had him as my surgeon.
