Gwynedd memories

Wonderful Childhood

I lived in Crib-y-mor with my grandmother, Emily Roberts, and my mother Patricia Jones (both originally Williamson). I lived opposite Tom Roberts and at an early age developed my own system of visiting everyone. First I would go across to Tom's and follow him around watching him weld or milk the cows or help with plucking chickens. One day we came across a snake and he despatched it very quickly. Most days I would put on my wellies and walk up the lane to the Doctor's cottage and race snails up the kitchen window! Next port of call was Errol's, a girl much older than myself, where I would follow the ducks and be chased by the geese. Next was up to the stream bounding the Pool's farm which I would dam, and then onto the farm. There were 3 Poole sons, David was oldest and I cannot remember the other two. Sometimes I would spend the night there and go back home next day. We left to go... Read more

Working at The Co-Op Shop

I was born in Llanbedrog at Tyn y Siop, moved to 5 Caehendy when 6 years old. Many of my friends have now have passed away, fond memories of Gareth --Phillip---Gwynfryn --- Dafydd. The bicycle you see by the shop (which was the Co-op) was the one I used after school to make deliveries to customers. My pay was £1 per week.
Best time in Llanbedrog was the summer months when the beach was full and busy with the boats etc.

Edward John Hughes.

My grandfather Edward John Hughes of Henllys Isaf sadly  passed away on Wednesday 27th of June 2007 at Bryn Beryl at the age of 92.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially the ones closest to him. My grandmother Pat who he thought the world of, and had been married to for 63 incredible years will need all the support and love from  friends and family at  these difficult times, also his beloved sons Adrian and Valance who meant so much to him.
"Ned" as he was known to the locals was truly a fine gentleman and a well respected character in the village, he always did his upmost to keep the village clean and respectable.  If he wasn't emptying the bins, he was painting the wooden benches or cutting someone's lawn or doing some sort of garden work to help people out.  So I can honestly say he was a big part of Llanbedrog and I'm pretty sure whoever knew taid would agree... Wendon

I lived in Llanbedrog until 1959 our grandad was rector of Llanbedrog church St Pedrog,s We lived in Wendon in Ffordd y Glyn it was a very very happy childhood.

The Village Where I Was Born

I was born at Tyn y Siop next door to Snowdon Stores when there were 12 shops in Llanbedrog, now sadly there is only one. The bike you see in the photo was the one I used to make.

LLANBEDROG - BRYN DU

I spent every summer staying with the Jones family at Bryn Du farm, from about 1957 to 1965. They were friends of my parents. The farm was sold some years ago, after Tom Jones had died. I enjoyed the farm very much, which was only about three acres, or so.

Tom was also a welder, and he was married to a German lady, Anna.

I also enjoyed going down to the beach and the shop where I used to buy my bucket and spade and fishing net is still there.

Abersoch was also a favourite, as were many of the beaches in the area.

Happy Days. My father met my mother there in the 1930s, as Dad was camping with the Boys Brigade and mum was staying with her friend, Catherine Jones, at the farm. They both were trainee nurses at the time.

Family Home

The greenhouses you see in this photo were my father's, he also built a house on the ground behind the trees after this photo was taken, we lived there for many happy years. My mother used to rent out the house in the summer months and had a caravan for us to stay while the house was occupied. It would be nice to hear from anyone that stayed at our house, the name of the house was Berwynfa.
