Richmond, the capital of Swaledale, has been described as one of the most perfect market towns in England. This view shows its sloping, circular, cobbled Market Place, with the tower of Holy Trinity Church, now a museum for the Green Howards Regiment from nearby Catterick Garrison, on the right.
