Richmond, the capital of Swaledale, has been described as one of the most perfect market towns in England. This view shows its sloping, circular, cobbled Market Place, with the tower of Holy Trinity Church, now a museum for the Green Howards Regiment from nearby Catterick Garrison, on the right.

The picture reminds of the year that my wife and I moved from Birmingham to Richmond and bought a house on what was then the new Shepherds Estate on the Darlington Road.
