I remember going to the Saturday morning picture in the Laurie Hall, it cost 6d. We lived in North Street and going back through the churchyard to the next street there was an ice factory threre and on a hot day they would give us a pieceof ice to suck on the way home. Great memories.

RE: RE: Cinema

I lived in Dagenham, and my mother often took me on foot to Romford Market, on Wednesday`s. (a long walk for a small boy.) I remember the pigs squealing as their ears were punched with numbers, and the cows having labels stuck on their rumps. When I was older, I went to the Laurie cinema a few times- I saw a very long picture called The Santa Fe Trail, among others. I used to buy model aeroplane kits at Wrefords, during the war. Later, I was able to afford the 103 bus from Dagenham East Station, to Romford, and return. I used to enjoy going to the Romford Market, (no livestock), just stallholders, on Saturdays.
