School Days
I attended this school in 1952-1956. I can remember Miss Bubbers the headmistress well. She roamed the corridors with her black gown flowing about her. A very stern and not to be crossed head of school. My first teacher was Miss Parfait who seemed very young. Miss Brown was our science teacher who invited the class to have tea with her and her 14 cats!. Our music teacher, whose name i forget, came to school on her bike with her yorkshire terrier in a basket in front of the handlebars. Miss Jordan was great for hockey, netball, rounders and cricket.I made a lot of friends there -Valerie Russell, Lyn Wilkinson, Ann Page, Pauline Nutt, Thelma Wren, Thea Davies to name a few. Our uniform was bottle green and heaven help you if you did not wear your green beret! I lived in Hornchurch at the time and either rode to school or caught the 66 bus to the Drill and walked from there. Quite a handsome building with wonderful grounds. Although a girls only school we linked with the Royal Liberty boys school - thus i met my husband!

The music teacher's name was Muriel Harris. I was at the RLS from 1946 to 1954 and took piano lessons from Miss Harris during that time. My older sister went to County High 1936-1941 (?) and also took piano lessons from Miss Harris.

I was at Romford County High for 1 year 1952/3 and recognise some of the names in your note. I am trying to trace Pauline Nutt as I have forgotten her married name. We remained friends even when my family moved back to London and I returned to Camden Grammer School. Pauline was my bridesmaid when I got married and the last I heard of her she was living in Pilgrims Hatch Essex. Any clues? Thanks PS I was in Miss Parfait's class. I seem to remember she used to try to make you feel sorry for any new girls who joined the class Hope to hear from you.

Gracious! I was at Romford County High from 1969 - 1974. By that time it had became the Frances Bardsley School for Girls. Miss Bubbers was the headmistress when I started there and was still prowling around wearing her black robes. She was quite an intimidating character until she retired, still having a presence at the school as her home adjoined the playing fields and she would often come out into the garden to reprimand us girls for hitting the hockey balls into her back fence - accidentally of course!
