More about this scene

The shops on the south side of the Market Place included (on the left) the tiny Caxton Bookshop. Brent and Collins expanded into the next two shops and offered the latest young men's fashions. Further down, Stones, founded in 1864, acquired adjoining properties and built a new store. The company merged with Debenham's in 1959.

Sister Aloysius, tall and willowy, gentle and kind visited each classroom with her huge rosary beads swinging amongst her voluminous black habit. I can still remember and smell Benediction - it was a small school that ...see more
