PLACE OF BIRTH
This is the hospital where I was born in July 1947. My parents were living in Penycae at the time but in 1951 moved to England for my Dad's job. Apart from a brief visit to a relative in Wrexham in 1960, I have never returned to Wales and it is now my ambition to see Trevalyn Manor and Penycae.
Trevalyn Hospital
I was born in this hospital on the 30/09/1955, my name was Derek Jones. After my birth I was adopted in Nov 1955, I am trying to find my birth mother, I have got her birth certificate but can't find if she married or not. I've been out a lot of money buying certificates but can't find my mother as Jones is a common name in Wales. I found my mother's mum, dad and great-grand parents. My mother's name is Lilian Mary Jones born 2 Feb 1934 and lived in 20 Bowydd Street, Blaenau Ffestiniog. Can anyone help me trying to trace my mother please?
BORN HERE
I was born at Trevalyn Manor in August 1953. I have returned to The Golly these last few years for short holidays and still love the place. Does anyone know when the place closed as a maternity hospital? A lot of people will remember my brother David (Dai) Williams who is 12 years older than me. He has been asking about old school friends and neighbours, so if anyone can remember him we would love to know.
When I Joined The Royal Air Force 22nd May 1952
I attended the Presbyterian Church Rossett Primary School in Station Road before attending the new school near Tom Bishop's shop, where I first bought my first cigarettes, Willy Woodbines, 5 for a shilling. I remember the fish and chips near the butcher, the Butchers Arms. Drink at the Alan Hotel in Station Road. Chandles the grocery and bread in Station Road. Ann the daughter. Lived in Burton Road, "Anfield", next to field where the big dip was. My father Jack Griffiths was on the council and Wrexham Rural Districit council. MAYOR Les Ankers, John Taylor used go to the Alan Hotel every Friday & Saturday evenings. That's just some of my memories. Now in Victoria, Australia since 1966. Married 2 children 3 grandkids. Well retired. Best wishes to those who remember me. Can email me if they like, would love to hear from anyone. Rev. James was Minister of Presbyterian Church. Mr Fred Witt. Head Master of the school, with Harry Costain. Bye for now, Regards John
Memories of Clwyd
Original Owner of The Plough
My Great, Great Grandfather, Thomas Evans was the original owner of The Plough. While doing some research into my family tree I discovered in the 1861 Wales Census that he was listed as a farmer(owner of 10 acres of land) and publican of the Plough Inn. He lived there with his wife Jane and son Robert and twins Edward and Eliza. Edward is my Great Grandfather. His son George immigrated to Canada but George's brother (another Thomas) lived in Gresford all of his life. I have more recent photographs of The Plough taken by my Aunt on a visit in the 80's.

Narrow Lane
I can remember Narrow Lane, Gresford although I lived there for a very short period. My Uncle Bob lived in the lane with my Auntie Peggy, he used to have a smallholding just across from where we lived. I am sure many people will remember him, his name was Robert Martin, in fact some of his family still live in Gresford. I also remember the dance group called the Gresford Bells, if anyone reading this recalls them I would appreciate if they would email me. And does anyone remember a Mr and Mrs Taylor who lived in the 1960s in a cottage just past Willises dairy? If anyone can remember them please let me know for I will always remember.
Phil Kersey-Smith.
Moss Hall, Gresford
I am just remembering Moss Hall and Mr and Mrs Yaylor and their son Stan who lived in a cottage near the copse, and how at a night time you would stand outside and listen to badgers crying, it was really such an amazing place, the memories which are still fresh in my mind. I wonder if anyone in Gresford would still remember them, in fact their granddaughter still lives in Gresford, her maiden name was Pauline Yates, she later married Ron Smith. The last time i saw her was in 1985. She has a sister, Patricia, again I have not seen Pat also since 1985, in fact it would be nice to know if anyone knows of or is friends with them, if so could you please contact me. I may have left Gresford very young but I will always be Gresford born and bred.
Wrexham Dairies
Does anyone remember the dairy in Pandy? It was Wrexham Dairies . I used to help out on the milk float that used to do the Rhosrobin run, also Gwersyllt. The woman who used to drive it was Joyce and on a Saturday and Sunday I used to help Jack dropping off and picking up the milk churns, also crates of milk, I never got paid for it, I just liked doing it, unfortunately not like kids today who can't be bothered to do anything other than play games or annoy people. If anyone reading this remembers the old dairy, please let me know.
Dad
My dad Bernard Kirham, much loved, greatly missed, was the first baby to be born here in the new housing estate in 1936. His mum Martha and dad James, brothers Joe, Jack, surviving brother Alfie, sisters Doreen, Nora, Elsie and surviving sister Gertie.Dad died recently, so it was doubley nice to view this site - thanks.
