Hi Will, My name is Chris Young, born in Rutherglen 1961. My father was James Young, born in 1926. This year I have been trying to build my family tree, when I spotted your post. So far I have gone back to the begining of the 1800s. My father's mother died 12 days after he was born due to heart fialure, he was raised by his aunt Liz White (maiden name Young, my grandad's sister). But my father had a brother called Wully Young (William), he would have been 8 years old when his mother died. My father married Patsy Ralston who also worked in Rutherglen swimming pool. My dad's brother was ex-Army and married Nettie, maiden name Beatie. Wully suffered from malaria every year after his service and went to work at Whites chemical plant. He had a son called William and a daughter, name unkown. I have an older brother called James (Jimmy). I have birth certificates, and marriage and death certificates to try and trace the family tree. I was wondering if you are my dad's nephew William? I would be grateful if you could help.

Hi, I was born in Rutherglen in 1961, my mother owned the Rio Cafe in 14 Main Street facing the Rio Picture house. (In those days our surname was Biondi). I went to St Columbkille's Primary School and was among the first pupils to move from the old school in Fairie Street to the new one. I lived in the flat above the cafe until 1971 then moved to Eastcroft which was still partof Rutherglen. I'm now living in Italy since1978 andI own a restaurant in Lucca, Tuscany.

Hi, do you remember the children's home near Stonelaw Road/Greendike Street? I'm doing research for a book about Belleview refuge but am finding it very hard to get any info. I was an inmate there from 1956 till 1961.
