Franklin Street, Ordsall, Salford 5
How many of you remember Pat Curry's pub on the corner of Franklin Street facing Steens sewing company olivies on the third corner best days of my life. I used to play football on that corner with a gang of lads that lived on Franklin Street, not sure if any of them are about now. Oxtons, Holdens, Lavins. At the other end of the street was Bamfords chippy and Rickeys corner shop later became Normans. Do you remember Filding and Bowlins greengrocers at the bottom of Derby Street? The days of my teens. Do any of you remember me, Harry Fletcher? I lived at number 73 Franklin Street. Write back if you do or add your memorie's Best regards.

I often think back to our lives in Franklin Street, playing football with the lads, street versus street. Joe Taylor, a good mate to me who used to take me to watch league matches in quite a few grounds in Lancashire. We`d spend ours in Ordsall Park, me centreing the ball into the goal mouth and Joe climbing to head them goalward. Charlie Hughes, who lived on the landing in Franklin Street and who was a terrific goalkeeper, Dave Platt who lived two doors from us at 56 Franklin Street. Derek Holden, George Oxton, the Kinsey family, Mr and Mrs Rushby whose lives we made a misery by playing football outside their house, but who had a television and let us watch the 1953 F.A.Cup Final (the Stanley Matthews Final). We lived for Saturdays and going to Old Trafford to watch either Man Utd`s first team or reserves. So many memories, so many lovely people. They were good days, hard sometimes, but good days.
