RE: RE: Broughton
Like John Potts I too lived in Lower Broughton and was also born in 1934. I had a great childhood and lived at the greengrocer/fruitiers/fishmongers shop at 213 Lowerr Broughton Road 'under the verandah' next to Wilsons the newsagents, Cretneys decorators, close to Eccleshalls. Up the side street near to the bank of the Irwell was Kilcoynes the local shop where during the war a bottle of sterilized milk and a loaf both cost fourpence halfpenny. I went to North Grecian Street School from 1939 until 1946. Mr Williams was the headmaster and then Mr Small. I remember Shirley Lappin and Hilda Hadfield. Whatever happened to them? Went to Broughton Modern for a month of two until the great flood after which we moved to Blackpool. Would love to hear from John Potts and any other contemporaries. Eric Pegg

RE: RE: Broughton
Hi Eric I am John Potts's daughter Sadly our dad passed away 12 October 2010, he was 76 and was in apparent good health...It was a sudden severe stroke. Mum (Elsie) and dad John lived on Lower Broughton Road all their lives and had the pet shop 'Pets corner' or 'Potts Pets Corner' ...where I was born, they went on to move further up on the cliff and opened the Mayfield Kennels which moved eventually to Agecroft but they still lived on the Cliff, Lower Broughton Road all their life.
