Born In Saford 5
A Memory of Salford.
Lived in Gurner street from 1944 until about 1960. Down one side of the street was Ordsal Hall and on the other, a street with a wonderful sewing shop, owner was a Mrs Cob, it was full of little drawers with embroidery thread, Same block a news agent, and a chippy. Do not remember the name of the street. Would walk past those shops going to Ordsal Board School, walking past the park. On one corner of the street was a little shop, and round the corner another shop which sold beer. I used to take the glass jug and get it filled for my grandad, as a reward I would get to drink the froth off the top.
Was in the Whit walks with Dock Mission. My mum worked at Colgate on Ordsal Lane. Almost everyone who lived in Gurner Street were family, grand great grams, uncles and cousins, I best remember how we decorated the streets for the Queens coronation, my dad made a big crown, we painted all the houses, and hung banners.
