North Yorkshire memories
80's
I'm not sure whether this is the correct place but it looks like Woodlands Road where my grandparents live. My Cousins and myself spent many a school holiday here during the 80's and very early 90's, mainly playing around the Beck at the bottom of the road, and in the adjacent 'playing fields'.
Very happy memories. . . .
I Live Down Here
Well, I've just moved down here from York. It's pretty nice and I have a few memories of the park and the church. It's very pretty.
Evacuees
I was evacuated to Rillington during the Second World War. I have been trying to find records of evacuees but have not been succesful. Does anybody remember the evacuees?
Church Going Memories.
I lived in Malton for many years and as a schoolboy sang in the church choir. Services alternated on Sundays between St Leonard's Church (the one with a spire) and the older St Michael's church in the Market Place. St Leonard's was eventually transferred to the Malton catholic following as diminishing membership of the Church of England Church could not support both buildings.
Home Town
The place where I was born and grew up.
I Was an Evacuee From Hull
My dad was evacuated from the City of Hull at the beginning of the Second World War to firstly the village of Wintringham where he stayed with a Miss Cholmley at Grange Garth with five other evacuees one of whom was his younger brother Alan, he stayed there until Miss Cholmey's untimely death which was very upsetting for him because he loved living with this wonderful lady!
He was then sent to the nearby village of West Heslerton and stayed with several other families there including a Mr & Mrs Wilcocks, Mr & Mrs Stephenson, and Mr & Mrs Milner. My dad made many friends in both villages and loved living in the countryside which was a new experience for a city lad from Hull who until being evacuated had never been outside of Hull let alone to the countyside ! My dad always speaks with great regard of the village people who looked after him and has a great fondness especially for Miss Cholmey who was like... Read more
The West Family
Research into my family history took me and my father to the beautiful villages of Bulmer and Eddlethorpe. It was a very moving experience to see my great-great-great-grandfather's headstone, William West, who my own father is named after. He was a schoolmaster in Bulmer and was originally from Eddlethorpe. I believe his father may also have been a schoolmaster in Eddlethorpe. I would dearly love to trace any living relatives or know more about the West family.
