More about this scene

Scarborough's castle dates from c1135. It was the scene of the first action of the barons against Edward II, whose favourite Piers Gaveston held Scarborough at the time; despite surrendering, Gaveston was seized by the Earl of Warwick and summarily beheaded. Here we see the narrow causeway leading to the castle, and the remains of the keep.

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

Scarborough holds so many happy memories for me as most of my family holidays were taken there. Having a kindly aunt and uncle to stay with made it the most enjoyable place to be. I still like to visit the old haunts whenever I am able to visit the town and unlike many places, it does not seem to change for the worse.
