Church going memories.

Malton, Market Place c1960

I lived in Malton for many years and as a schoolboy sang in the church choir. Services alternated on Sundays between St Leonard's Church (the one with a spire) and the older St Michael's church in the Market Place. St Leonard's was eventually transferred to the Malton catholic following as diminishing membership of the Church of England Church could not support both buildings.

Not a memory - more of a family history

Relatives of mine came from Welburn and I came on this site to see if I could find out more about where they originated. They were George Harrison b. 1806 married Susannah Butterworth in 1829. I think they both came from Welburn.
Can anyone out there help me in my quest?

The Rectory: Bulmer, Malton

My great grandmother Hannah Bull was I believe a servant in 1901 at what I can only find as 'The Rectory' Bulmer, Malton. The Head of the House was John J Davies born about 1864. He was described as Clerk in Holy Orders; Clergy. I am trying to find information about my great grandmother and would love to find out if anyone knows what church John J Davies was connected with and if it still stands. I reside in Australia but hope to one day visit the homes of my ancestors. Can anyone help me? Donna Bywaters ilovecaelan@hotmail.com

80's

Rillington, the Council Houses c1960

I'm not sure whether this is the correct place but it looks like Woodlands Road where my grandparents live. My Cousins and myself spent many a school holiday here during the 80's and very early 90's, mainly playing around the Beck at the bottom of the road, and in the adjacent 'playing fields'.

Very happy memories. . . .

Extracts From Swinton & North Yorkshire books

Whitby, the Harbour 1885

The Dock End has yet to be cleared out and made into a safe haven for the fishing fleet boats in bad weather. This last can be seen seventy years later in the picture of the railway station (W81011). Behind the schooner ‘Astrea’ we can just see the Angel Vaults; the Angel Hotel was an old coaching inn. A close-up examination of the photograph reveals that one of the buildings in the background on the right was Harker’s Wholesale Jet Ornament Manufactory.

Whitby, the Bridge 1901

The swivel section of the stone bridge built in 1835 to replace the old Dutch-style drawbridge opens to let a ship through. Then, as now, crowds gathered to watch the operation.
