Boat,s bats and millions of rhododendrons

Carrick Castle WAS my childhood. we lived in Glasgow and most weekends my dad would either drive us up - I was usually car sick on the windy twisty bumpy roads - or we'd sail up in the boat from Bowling. That was the best way cos then my sister and brothers could take the speedboat over to "our" island -no wonder I was obsessed with the Famous Five and Kirrin Island!
One evening we were "attacked" (according to my mother) by bats - there were about 3 teeny wee pipistrelles if memory serves - tho my mum was convinced they were vampires and freaked us all out by screaming like a banshee! We used to stay at Hazel Cottage ...read more here

Living in Luss Village

We just moved to a place outside village called Yewtree Lodge. About 1yr later we moved into village to a house called Rhu House. My brother, sister & I went to Luss Primary School where our Head Teacher was called Mrs Gamble. The other teacher was Mrs Taylor, her dad owned The Highland Arts Shop in village which is now owned by her brother Duncan Taylor. My dinner lady was called Mrs Macdonald. Mrs Taylor left and along came a teacher called Mrs Nonabell. We lived in the village until 1983 when my dad lost his job on Luss Estates through ill health. Happy Days

I came to live in Ardpeaton Lodge at the age of 2 when my father was transferred from Wales to Coulport. At that time the Lodge was owned by the MOD along with Ardpeaton House which was further up the drive. Two years later the House was converted into 5 flats and we were moved out of the Lodge and moved into one of the ground floor flats. I lived there for several years and went to the local school in Kilcreggan and then on to the Hermitage in Helensburgh when I was 12. They were the happiest years of my life. All the neighbours were like relatives

i moved here with my mum and dad in 1953 for a year . my dad was in the navy then,and served in the base there.we lived in heather cottage in the clachan opposite the post office.mr and mrs macarthur owned the cottage and we lived upstairs. i used to play with their son eric in the garden.we had great fun when it snowed sledging down the hill behind the house.i also made friends with the rector of the manse,s son only ive forgotten his name. i went to school at the hermitageacadamy in helensburgh by bus it is about 12 miles. we also used to go fishing ...read more here
