1977-1996
Hi, I am Adam. I moved to Nazeing in 1977, aged 3 years old, with my mum and dad. We moved down from Harlow, to be nearer my grandparents. I went to Nazeing Primary School and so did my younger sister Joanne, born 1979. She also went to Nazeing Primary School. Then I went to Cardinal Bourne in Broxbourne 3 years later. Joanne went to Mark Hall in Harlow. I spent a lot of time around the rivers and lakes and took up fishing. After leaveing school I worked as a grade 3 semi-skilled glass maker at Nazeing Glass Works from 1991 until 1999, when I was made redundant.
After my parents divorced I moved to Stevenage with my mum. ...read more here

Kingsmead School
I was at Kingsmead boarding school in the early 50s and we used to walk to this church (crocodile style) on Sundays. After church (we were usually taken out before communion), we would walk back to school where the smell of our Sunday dinner filled the air. I can still smell it. The best meal of the week. Kingsmead was later turned into offices (I think in the late 60s) but don't know what it is now.

The River Stort, with the Town Park along its banks, has become a beautiful and popular venue for the people of Harlow, Old and New.

Families with small children could always come to one of the many paddling pools in the area. The pool setting is designed so that a whole day could be spent there, with grassy banks for having a picnic and open spaces in which to run about.

Harlow swimming pool is in the Town Park. The site is quite near the part of the River Stort that had been used for swimming lessons and galas by local schools for at least one hundred years.

The greater part of the land needed for Harlow New Town was owned by Godfrey Arkwright, and he sold it to the Development Corporation in 1953. His home, Parndon Hall, was demolished to make way for The Princess Alexandra Hospital.
