Holidays with the family
I remember as a child in the early to mid 1960's taking many family holidays here in these wonderful bungalows. We spent many a day when it was raining playing Dominoes or Ludo as a family. My elder brother used to catch eels in the dyke that ran alongside of this place. I was very squeamish when he returned with them, thankfully they were never served up for tea. I have happy memories of going on holiday here from Sutton in Ashfield. They were wonderful times and I have a couple of photos that I will load up if I can. Year: 1951
We lived at Trusthorpe Hall
We lived at Trusthorpe Hall as children. My mum and dad were Walt and Millie Slater and we were Pat, Janice, and Carole. Jan and I went to school at Sutton on Sea. My dad started the caravan site and the club. We had wonderful days there and I remember the man at the old post office in the picture was called Mr Parker. Mum and dad were friends with Molly and Bill clark and we were friends with their daughter Jennifer. We used to play on her grandad's farm. I seem to remember the old man was called Wams. We were in the 1953 floods and my brother Pat was missing as he had gone to a rabbit show. However he was eventually bought home safe. If anyone remembers us I'd be very pleased to hear from you by e-mail. I took my youngest daughter to see the hall last year and we had a lovely time as it was unoccupied and we were very kindly allowed to look round. I remembered so much of the house it was uncanny. A few other things I remember are Walter the miller who was one of the customers in the bar. Also I used to visit Don and his wife in their cottage, I think he was a farm worker. And the bungalow on the driveway to the hall was occupied by a Mr and Mrs Cherry. One thing I found odd on my visit was that the moat had been filled in which seemed a bit of a shame as there are not a lot of moated properties, but I was pleased that the house is a listed property so should continue for a few more generations. Camelot Court history A memory of Sutton-On-Sea, Lincolnshire My grandma and grandad moved to Sutton on Sea. They bought a brand new bungalow at Camelot Court, I have photos of the bungalow being built. I have since been left the bungalow and my parents have now also moved to Sutton to a new bungalow. I am interested in the history of Camelot Court. I understand that Camelot Court and Garend were built on the site of a large house and I remember Stable Cottage at Camelot Court being built and the old stables knocked down. I also remember a large old building where Doulton Court now stands, I went in there once as a child though I was always told not to! There were rows of beds and painted pictures on the walls for children, it looked like a strange large hospital ward Does anyone have information about these topics, I am really interested. Bohemia Caravan Site A memory of Sutton-On-Sea, Lincolnshire This was the year my Grandma & Grandad bought a Bluebird Caravan, which they sited on the Bohemia Caravan Site. Just over from the sea top this caravan was the beginning of many happy holidays to be spent at Sutton-on-Sea. Bohemia was lovely, always tidy, flower beds planted - even if there were gas mantles to be lit, water to be fetched and the toilet/shower block over the way. The entire atmosphere of this site was lovely, and Sutton-on-Sea always a delightful place to visit - there will always be fond memories of Bohemia. Posted: 15/03/2008 15:27 by Carole Heyes |

At home in Mablethorpe A memory of Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire New Added 6 days ago My first holiday: I was 21 with 2 small girls and lived with my mum and dad, as my husband left me while I was expecting my second child. We went to Mablethorpe as my aunt said the sands were great for kids. We all had a great time, that was in 1972 and then we went every year till my dad passed away in 1995. We had so many good times, it was like going home. I try to get there at least once a year, if only for the day. My daughters are married now. Last edited: 17/11/2008 08:56 |
