MY MOTHER LIVED IN A TIED COTTAGE CALLED MOCKLEY MANOR COTTAGE (WHICH SOUNDED GLAMOROUS BUT WAS'NT) FOR A COUPLE CALLED MR AND MRS CREEDY-SMITH I BELIEVE, ANYWAY I USED TO TRY TO GET OUT AND ABOUT AS MUCH AS I COULD AND GO CYCLING ROUND ULLENHALL.
IT WAS HERE THAT I CAME ACROSS MISS PUGH, A LOVELY LADY WHO LIVED WITH HER BROTHER AT THE BOTTOM ON CHURCH LANE AND SHE WAS FOREVER CYCLING AROUND THE VILLAGE LOOKING WONDERFULLY FIT AND HEALTHY.

Perry is a similar drink to cider, but is made from pears instead of apples. It has traditionally been associated more with Worcestershire than Warwickshire, but even in Worcestershire it is hard to find these days, with just a handful of small producers still making it.

The Winged Spur (in the background, on the right) in the village centre is still a traditional country pub with a warm welcome for local residents and visitors. Like so many villages, however, Ullenhall has lost its shops, post office, school and vicarage.

Ullenhall has had its share of notorious residents, including a 19th-century forger called William Booth, who was also accused of his brother's murder. Though acquitted of that charge he was hanged anyway, for forgery was a capital offence. Another infamous resident was Lady Luxborough, whose husband hid her away there in 1736 because she had been scandalising London. She still managed to upset strait-laced locals by her antics at her house, Barrells Park, which lies in ruins after a fire in 1933 and is said to be haunted by her ghost.
