  Year: 1978 Old Friends
Hello, I have written some memories about my childhood in Renton. It's amazing how many people you meet in the world.. I loved the Renton and Bonhill, places that I remember well, and some of the people that shaped my life.. My Mom's name is Helen Gray, her name was Helen Thomson she has three brothers, Robin, Jim, Alex and a sister Marion. She might know some of the names that I've seen, I had a note from Senga McKenna, maybe you might remember my family. Anyway.. Hello to all of you in Scotland... Marion (Gray) Court

  Year: 1978 Great Childhood
I was born in Alexandria but lived my whole life in Renton, the last place I lived was 3 McKim Walk. I also lived at 313 Main Street. I went to Renton public school and attended first year at Vale of Leven Academy. I loved growing up in Renton and all the adventures I had with my friends Lynn Smith and Elaine McFarlane. We would go up the "Hill" and feel like we were in the wilderness away from everyone, I remember going up the Ben and running as fast as I could down the hill because out of nowhere a bunch of cows appeared. I loved the freedom we had as kids, going wherever we wanted, maybe places we shouldn't have, but we had the freedom to be "Free" which unfortunately today we can't give our own kids. I miss my old school friends but we have all grown up with the spirit of the Renton in our souls. My dad was Billy Gray and was a great football man, when we moved to Canada he kept the football spirit alive and was a great coach and became the President of Ontario Soccer Association. He passed away May 2001 and in the paper below his death announcement, we wrote the words, "All for the love of the game". Renton shaped me to be the person I am, and would love to bring my husband and daughter over from Canada and show them proudly the place of my childhood.
Sincerely, Marion (Gray) Court.

Too many childhood memories to list. Too many childhood friends to list. I moved away with my family in 1960. And "WWW" has reunited so many of us in the last few years. We are all over the world now but can take a walk down "CYBER MEMORY LANE".

  Year: 1979 Larkfield
I lived on Auchmead Rd from 1957-79 and now I live in the States. Life has not been bad, but there's never a day goes by, that I do not think of home. When we were weans, we used to have concerts in the backyard, singing, dancing anything to feel like a star. It's a shame children nowadays don't have that attitude. Summer nights we got to stay out till midnight, boy we thought we were something. We would walk to Inverkip just to go to the beach, a sandwich in hand, and we were gone all day, didn't need babysitters back then. I have been back home one time since I left, I was truly shocked at the difference, but still pleased at the places that had not changed that much, there definitely is no place like home. This year my son got me the Scottish Flag for Xmas. I never knew I had that many tears in my body, proud to be Scottish says it all. It has been wonderful just sitting here reminiscing and I thank you and your site for allowing me to do so. Good-night & God Bless.
