This is not a memory. I am doing my family tree, My grandfather Albert Llwellyn Darke, lived in Gwersyllt late 20's early 30's . He worked at Russian Oil Products we believe in Gwersyllt. He was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident Boxing Day 1932 on the Whitchurch- Wrexham road. All we know is that he lived with his wife and son My father who was 3 weeks old when his father was killed. We think he lived at Beehive House, Hope Street Gwersyllt. Does this house still exist? Has anyone got a photograph? Has anyone got any inforomation on the RussianOil company? I have tried looking for details of this comapny on the ...read more here

Opposite the Majestic cinema
I remember this beautiful church standing opposite the Majestic cinema with the church hall to the right & St Marks steeple behind. Tragically torn down to make way for an ugly row of concrete shops! Typical Wrexham!

Extracts From Gresford & Clwyd books
While not obvious from this photograph, Gresford is most famous for the tragic mining disaster of 1934 when 266 lives were lost following an explosion and fire at the Gresford Colliery. The disaster had tremendous significance. The inquiry into the disaster led to three disagreeing reports in 1937 on the causes of the disaster and the owner William Bonsall was convicted on eight counts of breaking mining safety laws, yet he was fined a mere £140 with £350 costs. This led to Sir Stafford Cripps demanding the nationalisation of the industry, which ultimately came in 1947. Gresford Colliery closed in 1973.
