Bethesda memories

Bethesda, the Lake, Nant Ffrancon Pass c1960

I used to rock climb in the area during the 1960's with my friends.
Not that I was a good climber, but I loved the rugged freedom of the mountains. I also have memories of a young girl from Gerlan who was very nice to me. Her name was Sylvia.

1901 census

This is actually a memory of my father, who is listed in the census of Wales for 1901 as being a quarryman, lodging at Cidwyn View, Betws Garmon aged 21.

I hope to visit the village (?) this Sept. and also the quarry. I would love to know if this house still stands.

Caernarvonshire & Anglesey Hospital

I remember doing my nurse training in this hospital 1967-70, it was a beautiful old building, now I believe it is a supermarket, oh dear!!! I wonder is there anyone out there who did training at the same hospital,I am so surprised to see no one has left a memory of Bangor.

Sometimes she would come up north to see me. One wet weekend in April 1967 Angela and I set off from Manchester to visit North Wales in my old car.  We stayed in youth hostels and hoped to climb Snowdon as both of us enjoyed outdoor adventures with the scouts and guides over the years. We were beaten back by appalling weather so she took me to nearby Llanfairfechan to see her grandparents instead. The warm cottage was a most welcome respite. I have not seen Llanfairfechan since 1967 and ...read more here
