Brick works A memory of Tondu, Mid Glamorgan My husband Stan Waite worked at Tondu brickworks. Our Sunday School used to pick wild flowers for the anniversary of the church. We had a picnic in the park and caught the steam train home. Last edited: 06/10/2008 09:06 by Eira Waite |

Living in Tondu as a child A memory of Tondu, Mid Glamorgan My brother and myself came to Tondu in about 1955 from Brighton, Sussex, when my father who worked there had to come home because his father was very ill (my father's name was Robert Leonard Thomas and his father's name was Essex Thomas). We both went to the school by the side of the brickworks. We lived along where the old people's home is and opposite there was the woods where houses are built now. My brother & myself would go down through the wood and go up to the brickworks, I think it was still in production then, there was always that distinctive smell about the works. Opposite the house was an area of Japanese knotweed. and me and my brother would thrash down every bit of the weed then a couple of days it would have grown back. Then we moved to Croeserew. But I still have an aunt living next door to the old people's home, called Hetty Kendal. Last edited: 29/09/2008 10:05 by Glyn Thomas |

Roberts family (Romany) A memory of Aberkenfig, Mid Glamorgan In 1918 my great gran's father Samson Roberts, a horse dealer, was injured during a horse race on the 'Golden Mile' near Aberkenfig. He died of his injuries at home in Dunraven St, Aberkenfig. His wife, Mary Ann, was a tiny lady and they had 11 children. His brother Joey 'Jockey' Roberts owned a scrapyard in Aberkenfig. Good Time A memory of Blackmill, Mid Glamorgan In 1965 Blackmill seemed such a sleepy village. The summers were warmer and drier, and we played up the mountains with our friends. We played Cowboys and Indians. We seemed to spend all our time out of doors ... in the park or making swings on trees in the woods. Last edited: 07/07/2008 14:52 by Sue Handley |

Going home for lunch A memory of Bridgend, Mid Glamorgan I am on this photo. I am one of the three girls in Grammar School uniform. The time on the clock, I believe, is 12.40 so we must have been going home for lunch. Not many people used to go home for lunch but we used to walk together. Hazel Jones (in the middle of the group) was about to cross the road to go over the old stone bridge to Sunnyside Rd. But Lorna Jones (on the left) and I used to walk all the way up Newcastle Hill to Cefn Glas. We got plenty of exercise in those days! My name then was Marilyn John. I was 12 years old at the time.
