    JAZZ BAND

Oh those memories of our jazz band, they were the best days of my life. I lived for a Saturday. My mam would pack our picnic and we'd be off in our orange and blue bus, Ronnie and Ann Marks sorting us all out with our American tan tights. I'seen places I never would have if it weren't for the band. Tuesday and Thurs band practice, it took us kids off the streets, it was my life ! Maxine Phillips

    My first look

    Hengoed, the Viaduct 1952

The first time my father took me under the Hengoed viaduct I remember looking up and said to my dad that one day I would like to walk across it and wondered how long it would take us. When I got a bit older and a bit more interested in the viaduct, me and a mate got over the fence on the Hengoed station side and made the trip to the other side.  Once half way across we stopped to take in the incredible views.  I'll never forget that day - it felt like we were on top of the world looking down at the valleys. My courting days

    Pontypridd, Common, the Memorial c1960

I lived in Mountain Ash and my husband to be lived in Cardiff, we both used to travel on the bus to Pontypridd to meet up. From there we would walk up to the monument for a kiss and a cuddle. We spent many happy hours up here thinking of our future together. Some times it was so cold we could hardly walk back to the bus as we were frozen. Now 47 years later we sometimes travel to Merthyr and every time we pass the monument we have lovely memories.

Always when my gran (Cath Hatton) was working in the canteen I would go up and have a drink and a piece of cake, and she would shout at me for bringing my friends up. On a couple of occasions a man used to show me a trick by moving his fingers. Until 3 months ago I remembered him and as I saw him in Caerau bus stop I looked at his hands and saw fingers missing - what a trick.
