hi diane i too lived around duchess street & began my working life at 87 duchess st the butchers & greengrocers owned by geof n kath garlick around 1974ish i also remember we would go digging for antique bottles at the back of the shop,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,HAPPY DAYS
I think to reminisce is great. At 76, I find myself doing this quite often and am drawn back to Shaw, and to High Crompton, where I was born. The house I was born in on Rochdale Road, near the Bull's Head Pub, is still standing. Just like cars, houses were built out of solid materials in those days!. I grew up in chadderton born in 1945 mellow street then moves to Leslie ave bus driver with Oldham Corp then to Canada played drums in a oldham band in the 60s toured with the Hollies Kinks Moody Blues as a back up group they where The Deltas trying to find Bob Higgins our bass player plus looking for a EP we made also played with D&TheDa,s played in the Bulls Head in Oldham looking for ...see more
t'Central stood at the junction of Kings Road & Moor Street, almost on the bend.Compared to the junior school it seemed very modern and had only been open about twentyfive years.
