More about this scene

This interesting picture shows the bridge over the Rother at the bottom of Adhurst Hill. The post office on the right superseded the toll house on the turnpike (1711). Note the semicircular door made to reflect the similar shape of the toll keeper's office. The old convalescent home in the background is now two houses.

A Selection of Memories from Sheet

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Sheet

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

This is May Cottages and the home of my gt.grandparents James and Jane Childs.  James was a shepherd on the Adhust Estate for John Bonham Carter and Jane looked after the sick and the poor here for 36 years.  She also raised 6 of her own children including my grandfather William Childs.
