The Lovekins And Crombs
My mother's family came from Sheriff Hales and Tong. I am looking for any information about the Lovekins who lived at Crackley Bank during the 19th and beginning of the 20th Century. Particularly John and Alice Lovekin.
Also the Crombs who lived in Tong Norton at the same time.
Many thanks
Jenny Stroud

RE: RE: The Lovekins And Crombs
My father's sister, Hester Mary Fallows was married to William Lovekin - son of John Lovekin. They had two sons John (known as Jack) and Brian who died last year. In his working life Uncle Bill as we knew him was a Station Master at Gobowen among other places. I can remember Mrs Lovekin living at Crackley Bank and she later moved to a cottage in Sheriffhales where I was born and lived at for 66 years. Now live at Newport. She was 100 when she died. The organ in St. Mary's church is dedicated to John Lovekin who was choir master and organist for a long time. I forget how many years. I will be interested to know of your mother's relationship to the Lovekins. Margery

RE: RE: The Lovekins And Crombs
Hello Margery How wonderful to receive your email. We are quite closely connected as my grandmother was Margaret Lovekin (William's sister). As a child I remember visiting Uncle Billy (as we called him) and Aunty Mary at their home in Wolverhampton. I don't recall meeting Jack or Brian. My mother was Joyce Cromb and as a teenager she often lived with Alice Lovekin at Crackleybank (I think there was a problem between her and her father). My mum moved south during the war, met Basil Stroud and I am their eldest daughter. My brother Bob lives near Stratford on Avon and my sister in London. I am a retired teacher and moved to Brighton 3 years ago, having worked most my life in Berkshire. I'm 61. I have recently visited Sheriff Hales and taken photos of graves etc, including Uncle Billy's and Hester's. I was always aware of John Lovekin's history and have a wonderful photo of him in his choir masters robes. I think the photo sat for many years on the organ in the church. My favourite picture on my mum's side of the family is a black and white photo taken in the garden at Crackleybank of the '4' generations. Alice; Margaret; Joyce and me aged approx 4 years. Did you know our mother Joyce? I assume you must have known my 'Granny' Margaret. The only relation in the North that we are still in contact with is Bill Cromb, my mother's youngest brother. John Cromb died a few years ago and we have lost contact with Mum's sister Toby. Are you writing up your history? I've nearly completed enough research to write up the Lovekin connections, and could email what I've got so far if you're interested. Best wishes Jenny

RE: RE: The Lovekins And Crombs
Hester Mary Fallows was my grandmother's 1st cousin and I have included her on my family tree along with her sister Alice and brothers George and Wilson. My tree extends back through their mother Hester Porter and as far as about 1648. It good to learn of more recent family from your "comment". I have found births of Henry J in 1922 and William B in 1929. Would these be John (Jack) and Brian? I would love to learn more about George Fallows as my father (now 92) says he recalls working with him (his 1st cousin once removed) in Wolverhampton. Can you help? I would welcome any information about any of the descendants of the Porters or Harpers from Sheriffhales. It is great to find that there are some cousins, albeit several times removed, out there.
