Isle of Lewis memories

Lost Family

I am tracing family and have ended up in Portnaguran. John Macdonald, son of Norman and Christina Macdonald, married Dolina Graham in 1921. John was a seaman on the "Narenta" at the time. They had 3 children, Angus, Christina and John and some time before 1929 the father, John disapeared. Would love to hear any information. My husband is a grandson of Dolina who passed in 1972. We have visited Scotland and loved it ,Stornoway is on our list.

The Grahams of 1 Broker, Portnaguran

I am looking for Grahams from Portnaguran. According to the census they lived at 1 and 12 Broker. I am looking for any relatives of Angus Graham and his wife Christian MacDonald. They lived approximately 1806-1879. I am descended from their son, Donald Graham who married Barbara Macleod and they were born around 1845 and had 10 children one of whom was my grandmother. I travelled around Isle of Lewis in 2008 and passed through Portnaguran but at the time did not know all my relatives came from there. I am headed to Glasgow in a few weeks.. Any information about the Grahams or Broker would be greatly appreciated

Mcleans

I am back to Finlay Maclean and wife Margaret Macdonald round about the 1790's from Gravir and Garyvard on my family tree! Hit a brickwall now though, any help appreciated.

Holidays at Steinish

My lovely memories of holidaying at Steinish and doing baking with my Great-aunt Isabella. The house was a lovely old house near the beach and close to the aerodrome. My great-aunts were named Macarther and I would be grateful for any information if anyone knew them. Some of my fondest memories are when I was with my great-aunty. Thanks, Morag.

Family Tree

I am doing my family tree and my grandmother was born in Lewis Castle, Grooms House, Castle Stables, my great-grandparents were called George Steven and Josephine Clarke. I am trying to find out any info or even find a pic of the Grooms House, any help would be fab as I'm stuck.

School Photos

Does anyone have Class photos of Bragar from the above era? I would love to see or get copies. Many thanks

Childhood Memories

My mother and I came from the USA to Port of Ness in the summer of 1939. We lived in Port of Ness and I went to Lionel School until I was in Class 2. These were the war years, but we were relatively safe in Port of Ness. I have wonderful, wonderful memories of my life there with my cousins, playing on the pier and the sands. It was the best time of my life. We came back to America in 1949 and now live in Michigan. My maiden name was Christine Mary MacDonald and I still have cousins in Port of Ness. My married surname is Pratt. My husband is Dean and I have two grown children, Donna and John and four grandchildren. I am now 72 years old and wish I could come back for a visit but it's not possible now. My grandparents lived at 14 Port of Ness and the other grandparents lived at 10... Read more
