RE: RE: Starting Life in Sidcup

I was born in 1944 and spent my youth just a short distance from the Oval in Rowley Avenue. I remember going with my mother to the Oval on many occasions and can remember what an important centre of the of the community it was. There was every type of shop you could wish for, hairdressers, bakers, post office and many more. But my biggest memories come from the many visits we naturally had to make to the post office. The clinic just across the way in Burnt Oak Lane is a place many local children would have remembered very well as it was there we received our endless injections and check ups. The pace of living was different then and maybe I'm looking at the past in a sentimental way, but for me they were great days for a young boy growing up who needed a safe and secure grounding to life.
