I could well have been one of the children bathing in this photo. I would have been eight at the time, living a little further up the coast towards Skinburness. This spot below the pinewoods was a favoured meeting place for a swim. I returned to Silloth last month for a quick visit after an absence of over 40 years. Sad to see how run down it now is. A town that literally died overnight when Beeching cut the branch line from Carlisle in the mid-60's. Nevertheless, it was a great place to grow up in the 50's.
