Visiting My Grandparents In The 1950s

A Memory of Sindlesham.

My mothers parents lived at 3 Mill Lane Cottages, Mill Lane, Sindlesham. I would stay with them in my school holidays. My grandad, John Gibbs, worked as a cowman on the owners farm, I think he was called Mr Curl. Staying with them was sheer bliss! I can appreciate now though that their lives were hard - outside chemical toilet by the garden shed at the bottom of the back garden. Once grandad reached 65 they were homeless as their home was a tied cottage. I remember getting off a red bus at the top of mill lane and carrying my suitcase down a quiet country lane that blossomed with honeysuckle and dog roses!
All family members lived in Binfield, Arborfield, Bearwood and Waltham areas.
Everywhere was really out in the countryside not like the commuter belt it is now.

Used to fish at Sindlesham Mill with a peastick rod, string line and curtain hook with my grandad.

Would love to find old pictures of this area.
