McInnes Family

In 2007 my husband and I went to the Isle of Skye as part of a trip to Britain and France. Whilst there, we visited several areas where our forebears had lived. I live in Newcastle, NSW, Australia and I am endeavouring to research my family tree. My relatives came to Australia from the Isle of Skye. John McInnes, (b.1820 on the Isle of Skye, parents Duncan McInnes and Margaret ?), married Catherine McInnes - same surname - (b. 1824 on the Isle of Skye, parents Angus McInnes and Mary McKinnon) in East Maitland, NSW Australia in 1844 and they had 7 children. Their daughter, Mary b. 2/8/1860 married John McDonald b.16/12/1846. Mary's family arrived in Australia in the 'William Nichol' October 1837, and John's family arrived in Australia in the 'Midlothian' in December 1837. John and Mary had 7 children, 4 boys and 3 girls. None of the boys married, only the girls. One of the boys - John b.1891 died aged 24 at Gallipoli 16/11/1915 and is buried at Shell Green Cemetery. One of the daughters Margaret Catherine, is my grandmother.
Are there any relatives of these families still living on Skye? I would be grateful for any information, no matter how small. I hope to revisit this beautiful area of Scotland in the not too far distant future.

RE: RE: McInnes Family

I have a set of foolscap typed pages sent to me some time before 1984 by my sister-in-law Gloria McLeod, (nee Mountford) of 106 Gordon Ave, Hamilton NSW, who is now in her mid-90's - re Norman McKinnon, (c 1806- ) Church of Scotland. From Kay L Lindsay, 8301 Cedarbrake Houston, Texas. Are you that person? Other than that, it has taken me more than 40 years to discover the name of my great-great-grandfather, Neil McInnes, who was taken to court in Maitland in January1859 for child-maintainence by my G-G-Grandmother Christina Cameron. The Court case was brought to my notice early last year and covered by a Maitland Mercury reporter. This explains why she registered him under her maiden name and later married Lachlan McLeod.
