Wonderful Childhood
I have just found this site and I wonder if anybody remembers my dad who was the local milkman? My name is Maureen and I have a sister called Carol, we lived in Larkspur Road, we had wonderful times.

RE: RE: Wonderful Childhood
I also had a wonderful carefree childhood in South Ockendon, I could go on for ever recounting events that took place on a daily basis. Maureen, if your dad was Bob Beddingfield, yes I do remember him very well. Who remembers Mrs Pook in the sweet shop in the village? And of course Mr King who lived in the cottage next to Dr Pederston, Cast's the baker's, Wing's the paraffin shop, the one-eyed barber that cut all our hair, scrumping in Mrs Scott's orchard, yes and I also had to go and pick a sack of vegetables before school, a bit of child labour there I think. Once I had picked my sack of veg, I had been instructed by my mum to stuff my pockets with anything I could get in them. I lived in Celendine Road from 1947 to 1963, wonderful carefree times. One last bit, the pre-fabs in winter had ice on the inside of the bedroom windows so thick you couldn't even scrap it OFF.

I also lived in Larkspur Road in South Ockendon. I remember the milkman's son, Pete, and the father although his name escapes me. I lived there until I was about 10 years old then moved to Afton Drive (1968). I absolutely loved the prefab, its space, large garden and nice road. I still live in South Ockendon, not too far from the site of the old prefab. In fact I loved it so much I have often had holdiays in prefabs in the past! Debs
