Lovely Bakery Shop On The Corner Of Florence Road

A Memory of Southall.

I moved to southall with my parents and a younger sister in the late 1950's. My parents immigrated from India and I was about 5-6 years old. I went to Featherstone Road school and then onto Western Road higher Secondary School in the 1960's.
We lived at 28 Florence Road and across the road was my friend Hazel Mobbs. There was a really lovely bakery shop on the corner of my road and I remember running up there on Saturday mornings to get bread and rolls. I can't remember the name of the shop - does anyone know the name please.
Does anyone remember the Pub which used to be on Western Road and I think the Landlady was called Dolly ( it was my dads local )
My name at school was registered as Buviera Johal. Which I later found out was not my first name at all the teacher had spelt my name wrong because when my parents took me to school to register there they spoke minimum English so my name was spelt as they spoke it.
I got nicknamed at school as Goldie.

I'm thinking of writing a book of my life in the UK because I have seen so many changes from the 1960's to date. I was a very confused teenager growing up in the Western world with parents clinging onto their culture and traditions.
I lived in Southall in the 1960's and wqent to Clifton Road school. Both my parents lived their since their childhood so I have many happy memories of Southall. I think the bakers was called Dadacks - there was one in Kings street near where we lived. I remember on Saturdays about 4pm queuing for stale cakes at reduced prices before the shop closed!
The bakers on the corner of Western road and Florence road was called Fowlers, it was a family run bakery selling fantastic bread and cakes. The owner was very involved with Southall football club.

My brother Neil, and I, grew up in Southall (1947 - 19690. We lived at 14 Clifton Road and went to the primary school two doors away from our house. I had a Saturday job at Dadak's the Bakers on the corner of the King Street. A regular shopper was Pete James, who sent me a Valentines Card which read 'two split tins and a small twist please'! I later went out with him a few times and he was a very nice boy. I went to Western Road Sec Mod school. I met my husband to be at the Southall Young Conservative club and we now live in Bucks. My dad was Frank Wallace and my mother Josie (Spink). My nan Edie Spink lived in Salisbury Road. Dad worked at the Greyhound Track in Havelock Road. It's lovely reading all the memories on this site!

Hello, my grandmother who is 95 used to work in Daydacks. I am with her now and she is telling me this incredible story of a dark grey/tan cigar shaped object that was hovering over the greengrocers opposite on kings street.

Apparently it caused a bit of commotion at the time but I can’t find anything about it. My mum and grandmother both saw the object and this must have been around June 1978 but it’s hard to be precise.

Does anyone remember this?

Would appreciate any information.

Thanks,

Chris
