Southall Long Gone

A Memory of Southall.

We moved to Southall when my brother Peter was two 1959/60 From a maisonettes in Hayes. I remember my dad had a lot of work to do in the house in Greenford Avenue as when we moved in it had creosote on doors and dark green paint. It was soon changed into a nice home with my dads hard work. My elder sister Linda and I had the biggest room at the back, mum and dad had front bedroom and Peter the box room.

We went to North Road Scool, and walked every day. We had lots of friends to play with on the grass on the corner with west road or was it east rd. anyway we roller skated, played rounders, went to spikes bridge park and I loved climbing trees there.

Following my baby sisters birth we moved to 158 Lady Margaret Road. It was a private house which the council had bought up and our lives went up a notch. Mum became "our Mrs Bucket". Out family lived all around us.

As we got older we went on to Dormers Wells Secondary School. What an eye opener for me we were quite cosseted at North Road it felt very safe. Dormers was a nightmare, riots outside the school, fights, a lot of aggression between the Asian, and white students. It wasn't long before I burst out of this bubble to the world of work.

My elder sister moved out area then my brother followed by me and my new husband.

Now we're mostly in Milton Keynes, or nearby.

Memories of my childhood was good, safe and family love. Although the area changed drastically around late 60's early 70's.
