Southall Of My Youth

A Memory of Southall.

I was born in 1933 and grew up in Allendale Avenue.I have wonderful memories of my childhood before during and after the war. I went first to North Road Infant School, then Lady Margaret Road School after Dormers Wells and Southall Tech. From 1950 to 1955 I served an apprenticeship at Hoover Ltd in Perivale. They were very good employers. I pains me to see they are no longer there.Sadly I no longer have contact with friends I knew. I often wonder where they are and what they may be doing now.Stanley Grant was my next door neighbor and longest friend, the girl across the street, Mary Heinz moved away when I was 14. I remember going dancing Saturday nights at the Montague Ballroom above the Palladium cinema in Ealing and Ealing Town Hall. Up until I emigrated in 1955 there were still residual effects of the war on living standards although things were getting better. I first went to Canada in 1955 and then on to the USA where I have been since. I have made a few nostalgic trips to Southall through the years and watched the metamorphosis to what it is now. The street names are the same but it is a whole new world. I would love to connect and perhaps share memories and stories with anybody who may remember me.
