Oakwood Park
I was born in Southgate in 1938 and lived near Oakwood Park until my teens. In the early years we were often taken to the Park to play on the swings etc. I remember the boating pond, and the tea house where, when the war had ended, we were able to buy ice creams which were delicious! Later on I played tennis on the courts in the Park. I also remember the wonderful poplar trees which were all along the paths. I also recall that there was an 'ice house' somewhere in the Park near the tea house Oakwood Park was a great place and we spent many happy times there.

RE: RE: Oakwood Park
I remember the park well from about 1948 to 1956, yes the ice creams were delicious. I also remember the ice house (we use to pretend it was our camp) and the lake just below the boating pond. We use to paddle in the boating pond on hot lazy summer days, until the polio epidemic ... after that we were not allowed to any more. I also remember in the winter when the snow was thick on the ground we us to taboggan from the tea house down to the lake. Many many happy memories.

Hello Kathleen
It was good to read someone else's memories of Oakwood Park. As you said, the summers did seem to be lazy and hot and the winters cold (just like this year!). I don't know why the ice creams tasted so delicious - maybe it was because we hadn't had any during the war. I lived in Kenwood Avenue. Where did you live?
