Place Where I Was Born

The Village 1949
Enlarge photo |  More about this photo

I know this part of Sowerby so well as I was born in one of the cottages in the centre left of the photo. Grandma lived in the end house and my parents in the middle one. On recent visits the place has altered somewhat and is spoilt by too many cars parked around the greens, but such is progress.

RE: RE: Place Where I Was Born

This is NOT Sowerby village in West Yorkshire.
I suspect it is Sowerby near Thirsk in North Yorkshire.
Sowerby village in West Yorkshire has not/ and didnot have a tree lined street with grass banking. The buildings were on the road side in the main street, and there was a set of almshouses just above the church.
The church is dedicated to St Peter , and was built in 1766; it is a fine example of Georgian achitecture and is Grade 1* listed with English Heritage.
