Castle School For Boys

Hi everyone! Does anyone remember a Lily Turnbull working as Assistant Matron in the school in the early 1950s? I'm trying to fill in some gaps in my family tree. Thanks very much x

RE: RE: Castle School For Boys

I remember her very well, she was the nurse there. She had her own sleeping quarters there. She was more qualified than the matron but the matron was the headmaster's wife, she couldn't be above the boss's wife! I loved going to the surgery where she held office, usually for a nice big spoonful of Virol (malt extract). She was the only shoulder to cry on in the whole horrid place. I can't help with any family details I'm afraid. Regards, H Sstainton.
