The Crown Inn
Not really a memory - rather a request for information. My grandfather, Alfred Pain, was licensee of the Crown Inn from possibly the late 1920s through to the middle 1930s. If anyone has any memories/information/photos of the public house and/or my grandfather's time there, I would be most grateful to hear them.
Incidentally, my mother, Doris Bird, used to live in Hoddesdon Road and it was through working at the Crown that she met my father. Any memories of her or her parents, Florence and Arthur Bird would also be gratefully received

RE: RE: The Crown Inn
Hi Colin My name is Eddie Baker. I lived in Capple Lane. I was then 17-18 years old, I am now 69. I knew Alfred Pain, he was the landlord of the Red Lion at the top of High Street opposite the then Pied Ball. I knew a lot of people in both villages because I was a baker boy and later a milkman. Kind regards, Ed

RE: RE: The Crown Inn
I was born & grew up in Stanstead Abbotts, and lived there until 1966. I have many fond memories of the village where many of my family had lived from well into the 1800s - only one member now remains. Please e-mail me if interested on:- greenviewpark@yahoo.co.uk Leslie
