More about this scene

The park, situated along the Yarm Road, was the gift of Sir Robert Ropner, and was opened by the Duke and Duchess of York on 4 October 1893. The very attractive fountain is evidently the centrepiece of an ornamental and floral display on this occasion, and a panel of flowers in the background marks a centenary in which the large cross on the bank no doubt has some significance.
