Three Ashes, Oakhill
We used to stay at Three Ashes, Stoke Hill with my grandparents most summers in the fifties. They were called Moore. My mother (now deceased) was called Enid Moore and was brought up by her grandparents, John Moore a quarryman and his wife (I do not know her first name). Her mother was called Edith Florence May Moore, but we were brought up to call her auntie. Does anyone out there have any memories/photos of the area. I would be most obliged as I am trying to trace my family tree to give to my grandson.
Many thanks
Linda W

RE: RE: Three Ashes, Oakhill
My nan used to be at Three Ashes in her early years (b1913 - d2007). Her family name was Banfield, father Thomas and mother Mary Ann (nee Denning).
I have been given details of the Denning family tree that dates back to 1639. In this tree there is a mention of Sarah Moore who married Hezekiah Denning 18 June 1821 in Kilmersdon. Hezekiah's death is recorded in the Shepton Mallet Registrar Office book 10#335. I don't know if this will be of any use to you in your family search.
best wishes

RE: RE: Three Ashes, Oakhill
My father was born at Three Ashes in 1922. They then moved to Stoke St Michael. The family name was Griggs and all of the Griggs from there are my folks. I have been researching my family history for 15 years and would love to hear early memories of Three Ashes.
Thanks, Alma
