RE: Weekends with the Jones

I had just been diagnosed with breast cancer but had already booked a holiday in Weymouth in June 2006. The doctor told me to go away and enjoy myself and when I returned home I would have the op. at Margate, Kent. Well, I certainly did enjoy myself. My partner and me had a wonderful day in Sturminster where I found Church Street where many of my ancestors had lived in the 1800s and in the churchyard I found the grave of my ggg grandmother Hannah Fudge born 1804 in Sturminster and died in 1864. While walking down to the churchyard we came across a terraced house being re-thatched. Although we have thatched cottages in Kent I had never seen a re-thatch before. As well as having many of my ancestors in Sturminster Newton I also had many in Sherborne where my gg grandparents ran a bakery and pub. I also had a gg grandmother Mary Young nee Percy who had about 6 houses built with the help of her son Caleb and had her initials M.A.Y. marked on a plaque on each house in Sherborne. I hope to return in the near future to this lovely county. Oh yes, by the way. My op. went well and I am still here to tell the tale!!!
With best wishes, Pam Steward
