A Memory of Tantobie.

Neat gardens of squares of box hedging kept very small and neat, both sides of the path from the road to shop, these squares full of striking displays of red and yellow flowers changing with the seasons, with wallflowers and tulips uppermost in my memory it was also highly scented, a large lilac and spreading cherry tree to one side and a sun bleached silver wooden fence along the road side. There was a dark red stable door leading into the shop where Mr Talor would sit in the bay window, the counter a scrubbed wooden affair with gob stoppers and bubble gum in glass jars large information posters one a Ministry of Agreculture Notice warning and advising of the threat of Colerado Beetle, beyond the counter a display of sweets in front of which a row of green milk churns from which Mr Taylor would dispense loose rice, and dried fruit putting these goods in thick, dark blue paper bags, around the walls were shelves packed with all sorts of other stuff from shotgun cartridges to fork handles !!, and candles. Mr Taylor (Persy) would do Post Office business from a low bench cum window seat in the bay window
