Royal Canadian Hospital Taplow

Canadian Red Cross Memorial Hospital c1955

I first knew the hospital when I was admitted there in 1956. It was a beautiful building. I have seen photos online of how it had been left to go to ruin. I have also heard it was going to be demolished for a housing estate. I find it quite sad that a building that has done so much could be just dismissed. I'm sure it could have been put to a worthy cause. When I was in the hospital I do remember one nurse - STAFF NURSE MARSDEN. I look forward to anyone else remembering this place. Sue.

RE: RE: Royal Canadian Hospital Taplow

Yes this was a great hospital, I was born here in the summer of 1956 and when I got married I was hoping for my son to be born here in 1979. Thank goodness for archives and other things that help us get information and photos for our families to see.

RE: RE: Royal Canadian Hospital Taplow

I had rheumatic fever and was admitted to the Royal Canadian Hospital in 1956 and spent three months going through various stages of recovery. I've since learned that many children died in this hospital from rheumatic fever so I can count myself lucky. I am now 65 and apart from an irregular heartbeat (which I have been told is associated with rheumatic fever) I am fit and well. The only nurse's name I remember was Nurse Kneebone, a strange name but I could be wrong.

It was really nice to know that people remembered the Royal Canadian Hospital. It seems they really were the good old days, bring back the Matron.
