I have just been looking at some comments, I was brought up in Trafford Park from 1952 when I was born and until 1966 when my parents and I moved to Australia. I went to Trafford Park Primary School and at that time the Headmaster was Mr Organ. I have been looking at some old photos and I have been told that where I lived is no longer which sorta shatters your memories, my address back then was 810 Eight Street just across from the park that was there, and I have fond memories of Sid who used to be the park caretaker. I wonder if there is anyone alive that still knows me, I would love to get in contact with them again.

I arrived in Trafford Park in 1936 as I had moved from Chorlton cum Hardy with my sister Marjorie and mother Marjorie. My father had died in 1930. Mother rented a shop at 392 Third Avenue and I started at TP Council School aged eight. The school was built in 1914 (think so) so was only twenty two years old in 1936. It still stands although does not now act as a school presumably because of demolition of all residential property in the Park years ago. From memory the headmaster in my day was Mr Derbyshire strict but probably fair.My sister eventually married Hanson Quinn who was employed by Metropolitan Vickers (Metrovicks) as a miller. Mother gave up the shop about 1938 and we moved first to 420 Fourth Street and later to 1060 Tenth Street where she had some lodgers. I joined the Wolf Cubs whose HQ was above the Trafford Park Hotel garage, now derelict. I was evacuated to Knutsford in 1939 but left the Knutsford area... Read more
Saxby Street
Does anyone remember Harry Wright's Coalyard. We lived immediately opposite at No. 54, on the corner of Pomfret Street. I came home early from school one day and realised I didn't have a key, so thought nothing of asking Harry Wright to back up his coal wagon, so I could climb through the window which looked out onto Pomfret Street. As kids, we used to nip over to Grimshaw's on the corner on Pomfret Street and Stapleton Street for a vimto "tub". I've tried making them since, but they never taste the same as Mr Grimshaw's. Then there was Fryer's on the corner of New Barton Street, and Bampins the greengrocers, also on New Barton Street. We were spolt for places to play, with Light Oaks Park and Oakwood Park right on the doorstep. As we graduated from childhood to early teens, we used to go to Jean & Reg's. It was THE place to go. Auntie Lizzie
I have just read Kay Rogers' memories of Saxby Street, my Auntie Lizzie lived at number 58, she brought up my dad Jack from being a small boy. I remember going there every Wednesday when in school holidays. She lived with Uncle Charlie who taught piano. I also recall getting Vimto jublys from that shop and the coalyard so Kay, maybe you knew my dad, my mum was Veronica. Regards, Alan Price
St Luke's School
I was at St Luke's School from 1944 to 1954. My name is Barry Jones, if any one remembers me I would like to hear from them. I used to live on Lancaster Road. After I left school we used to go to Mortons on the height on Sunday afternoons for hot Vimto, then in the evening go to the Ellesnere cinema.
Family in Firswood Area 1912--1980
In 1938 my grandfather moved from Oakfield Avenue nearby to 39 Ryebank Road when he bought a newly built semi-detached house for the princely sum of £800! My dad was then 27 and had the same first name as his dad. Very useful having his name on the title deeds when the old man died! Ryebank Road is off Seymour Grove and goes through to Longford Park. We moved in in 1959. At one time, our family GP lived just around the corner in Erlington Avenue. He just happened to be the Manchester United retained team doctor and for a while Pat Crerand lived opposite him in a three bed semi, owned by the club. When Pat moved on, another United player moved in -- ex-Arsenal Ian Ure.
