Vincent Terrace

I was born at Vincent Terrace in my grandmother's house in 1949, opposite the pit. Have some happy memories of Thurnscoe, my grandad always went to the {Corrie} for a drink on Sunday afternoon, I still have his membership card as a keepsake.
Found lots of old pics of neighbours who were friends, Kath and Nick and Mrs Mellor, I would love to send them the pics, if you know them let me know.
We lived with my grandparents until my parents got a house in Highgate. I went to Highgate School then to Goldthorpe until my last year, then we moved to Wigan.
I remember the pit lane and going to the baths and going to the skating rink at Goldthorpe{roller skating}, and going to the matinee on a Saturday afternoon, watching the Lone Ranger and Tonto {can you guess my age?}, playing in the backs behind Vincent Terrace, all happy memories, it used to be such a friendly place.
Does anyone know if Vincent Terrace still stands?
Regards Joy

RE: RE: Vincent Terrace

Vincent Terrace has gone unfortunatly, like a lot of other things in Thurnscoe. Hope you can post some more memories on here before the idiots start.

RE: RE: Vincent Terrace

Such a shame Vincent Terrace has gone because I was doing family history and thinking of coming to Thurnscoe to take some pics of the house I was born in. Other memories I have of Thurnscoe was the bookies right at the top of George Street, my grandparents liked a bet on the horses and I used to go with them sometimes on a Saturday afternoon. It had a little garden with a couple of forms to sit on, you could not go in the bookies but they let you sit outside on the forms, it was lovely in the summer. If I remember right there was a little farm on Vincent Terrace and the farmer (I can't remember his name now) used to let us have a ride when he got the horse and cart out, the cart had a form down either side which you sat on, we thought it was the highlight of the day.

RE: RE: Vincent Terrace

Vincent Terrace was still standing the last time I past through Thurnscoe. The only houses to have been knocked down are No 2 and No 4 George Street. I was born at No 4 George street in June 1941. If this site is still active please reply, since we should have known each other.

I was born in 1962 in Thurnscoe and still live there, and I can assure you that Vincent Terrace is still standing.
