Floods in Tonbridge
I was born in Tonbridge in 1957. I went to Sussex Road primary school and Hillview for girls. I remember the most is the flood we had and the carnivals when I was younger. I still come back to visit my sister who stills lives there. A lot has changed - I prefer the old Tonbridge.

RE: RE: Floods in Tonbridge
Hello Janice
I certainly remember the floods of 1968. We lived in Higham Wood which became an island. We had no milk, electricity or other essentials for about three days. My father was in Scotland working when the floods hit and he had to wait for the water to subside before he could come home. We had a gas oven and I remember the neighbours using our cooker to cook their dinners. I remember the Courier headlines too with pictures of washing machines and televisions floating down the High Street. Before the floods you could buy boxes of cheap broken biscuits over the Woolworth counter but this stopped after the refit. Butchers stopped putting sawdust on their floors after the flood too.
Cheers Jenny
